After a long wait of… 24 hours, here’s the second scouted player of the series! This one may be slightly more familiar to some, thanks to his past at FC Barcelona, but his inclusion here is fully earned through his outstanding loan spell at FC Andorra.
Last season, he showed clear signs of his potential with FC Barcelona Atlètic, most notably in a penalty shootout that went viral—saving a spot kick before stepping up to score a Panenka himself. A memorable moment, no doubt. But let’s be honest: how many of us have actually watched a full match of him?
Now, playing in the Spanish second division, his performances are finally accessible week after week. With LaLiga Hypermotion matches being regularly televised, Aaron Yaakobishvili is gaining the exposure his talent deserves.
Despite a strong start to the season, FC Andorra soon went through a difficult run of results, marked by inconsistent performances across the pitch. Yet even in this challenging period, one constant stood out: Yaakobishvili is not just another goalkeeper. He consistently keeps his team alive, earning points almost on his own—something incredibly valuable in a league as demanding and unforgiving as LaLiga Hypermotion.
Careful China… Here’s a Bigger Wall
To begin with, let’s address the obvious. Aaron Yaakobishvili is not an exceptionally tall goalkeeper, a trait that has become almost a standard requirement in modern scouting and can sometimes deter both fans and recruiters at first glance. However, after watching him consistently over several weeks, one thing becomes clear: his height is barely noticeable in-game.
What truly defines Aaron is his elite shot-stopping ability, arguably the most valuable quality for a goalkeeper. His positioning inside the goal is outstanding; he reads shots early, sets himself quickly, and maximizes his reach through excellent body shape. Combined with sharp reflexes and explosive dives, this allows him to make saves that go beyond what the eye initially expects from a keeper of his stature.
Playing for a side often involved in relegation battles, FC Andorra frequently find themselves under sustained pressure, facing a high volume of shots each match. In this context, Aaron’s reliability becomes even more impressive. He doesn’t just make routine saves—he consistently denies high-quality chances, keeping his team competitive in matches where momentum is firmly against them.
Beyond shot-stopping, Yaakobishvili also shows strong composure when dealing with crosses and second balls. While not dominant in the air, his timing, bravery, and decision-making allow him to neutralize danger effectively, often opting for clean punches or secure catches rather than unnecessary risks.
Unfortunately, that is one of his main setbacks too. Him not being dominant in the air sometimes opens opportunities for rivals to pressure him, obtaining second-ball opportunities in dangerous areas.
With that being said, a significant tactical uncertainty remains: how his profile would translate to a more dominant, ball-heavy side. In his current environment at FC Andorra, he thrives on high-volume activity and constant engagement. Transitioning to a top-tier team would require him to manage long periods of mental inactivity—a psychological challenge that tests even the most elite keepers.
In such a system, the demands shift from constant shot-stopping to high-level ‘proactive’ goalkeeping. This includes maintaining a high defensive line, acting as a reliable 11th outfielder in build-up play, and excelling in 1v1 ‘sweeper-keeper’ situations where he must sprint off his line to stifle counter-attacks. While Aaron has the technical foundation and composure to adapt, his ability to retain razor-sharp focus for a single, decisive moment after 80 minutes of silence remains unknown and might be the main setback in his profile.
Great Performances Backed By Data
This shot map provides a clear overview of all the attempts Aaron Yaakobishvili has faced so far, totaling 85 shots on target. From those, he has conceded 22 goals, one of which was an own goal by a defender, leaving him with 63 savesoverall.
These numbers also help contextualize FC Andorra’s defensive reality. The team allows a high volume of shots per game, often forcing Yaakobishvili into constant action. In such conditions, keeping clean sheets becomes extremely difficult, as even a single lapse or deflection can undo an otherwise strong performance. However, rather than being overwhelmed, Aaron has consistently risen to the challenge, maintaining a high save count and frequently bailing his team out in critical moments.
This is further supported by his xGOT (expected goals on target) value of 23.74. With only 22 goals conceded, Yaakobishvili has prevented almost two goals compared to what an average goalkeeper would be expected to concede from the same shots. This metric reinforces what the eye test already suggests: despite the defensive pressure around him, he is actively saving his team points.
Player Comparison and Future Expectations
When we compare Aaron Yaakobishvili with other goalkeepers in the Spanish second division, one thing is very clear: he’s great at saving shots. This matches what we see every week on the pitch—when Andorra are under pressure, Aaron is usually the reason they stay in the game.
Another thing that stands out is his passing. He ranks high for accurate passes and accurate long balls, and he’s also one of the goalkeepers with the best pass accuracy in the league. That’s a big advantage for a team that often needs to play out from the back or go long to escape pressure.
When it comes to clean sheets, the numbers aren’t great—only three so far—which puts him low compared to other keepers. But this is mostly because Andorra allow a lot of shots every match, making it very hard for any goalkeeper to keep a clean sheet.
Looking ahead, Aaron Yaakobishvili’s future seems highly unpredictable. There are three possible scenarios, each equally likely in my view.
The first possibility is that, after his loan spell, he returns to Barcelona as a backup goalkeeper, especially now that Ter Stegen seems to be out of the club and Szczęsny’s contract expires at the end of the season.
Secondly, I can also see a future where he stays in LaLiga, but with a bigger team. Villarreal looks like a perfect match for him, as they are in need of a solid and reliable goalkeeper and have not fully found that in Arnau Tenas.
Lastly, considering his high ceiling, a move to a top club looking for a young goalkeeper also sounds very plausible. My first thought is Chelsea—given the number of goalkeepers they currently have and the fact that none have truly convinced, Aaron could emerge as an interesting target. From there, a loan move to Strasbourg would also make sense. Although Mike Penders is currently having a solid season, I expect him to be at Chelsea next year, leaving a space for him in this young and solid team.
One thing is clear: thanks to his performances, Aaron has secured a future at a big club. Now, the key question will be whether his decision—or his agents’—ends up being the right move for his development.
Lastly, to put his trajectory into context, here are, as always, three possible career outcomes:
Best-Case Scenario
Jan Oblak — An elite goalkeeper who carries his team through difficult moments with incredible saves. Not particularly tall, like Aaron, but his positioning and reflexes more than make up for it, turning him into one of the best in the world.
Expected Outcome
Guglielmo Vicario — A solid goalkeeper for a big club. Excellent reflexes and shot-stopping ability, combined with a strong personality that closely resembles Aaron’s. A player who consistently steps up in big moments, like the Europa League final against Manchester United.
Worst-Case Scenario
Kasper Schmeichel (late Leicester / Nice years) — A high-volume goalkeeper in a mid-level side, mixing strong seasons with more difficult ones. Still capable of sustaining his team with important saves in tough moments.
